Weekend away with Modellers of Purpose

This last weekend I was away at Red Rock enjoying extended time focusing on Railway Modelling in pleasant surroundings. The group of invitees were varied, with many familiar and a few new faces. The weekend is all about bringing a group together that actively models, with an attention to detail and refinement of the resulting model, in my opinion, and it’s well worth the four hour drive from Brisbane.

Darren and I were passengers in Brendan’s vehicle, with plenty of chats and swapping ideas all the way. We had arrived on the Friday, and kicked off the weekend with a few drinks and dinner at the bowls club, catching up with Bill and Smithy.

Saturday had us at the hall by 830, and it was relatively full already. The meet and greet took some time, but before long we were all setup and modelling.

I could give you a run down of all that I saw, questioned and chatted about, but really the overarching impression I’m left with was one of generosity of spirit. Many people approach this hobby in many different ways, and collectively we can lift each other in both abilities, learnings, techniques, but mostly in conversations that you found yourself involved in.

To everyone I met and spoke with, a sincere Thank You. You are the reason I would chose to return next year.

For those wondering what I was working on, it was the Bulli Station building, again, but for the last time. My railway modelling has been on hold for quite some time, life does get in the way. I guess it must always be about balance, how we spend our time away from paid work, and for a long time it has not even been considered. This weekend was a great kickstart, and thank you to to Stephen, Andrew and Dianne for making the weekend possible, and so enjoyable.

A couple of shots from Lismore Station with the venting on the roof the same as the model I’m constructing.

Such a great time, thanks for the company fellas!

Oorroo!

Geoff.
